 Adoption Policies
The purpose of pug adoption is to provide a healthy, happy, home for the lifetime of the pug. It is not to provide a low-cost pet. We see adoption as a privilege, one that families are selected for based on individual merit – not on a first-come basis. The needs of the pug are most important and pugs need stable homes quickly.
All applicants must be legal adults with a means of supporting a pet plus any unexpected medical issues. Stability is very important. During their lifetimes, most dogs will have something happen which will require some form of medical attention.
Midwest Pug Rescue’s Policies –
v MPR requires a home visit of every applicant – no exceptions. Home visits provide a good opportunity to ask questions. There is no "pass" or "fail" to a home visit. Instead, but the information gathered is used to help indicate a "best fit" for each individual pug.
v MPR can not guarantee that a pug will be housebroken. Any time an animal enters a new environment it needs to learn where to go potty. It is like any of us entering a place and not knowing where the bathroom is, except pugs can't ask!
v MPR can not make any guarantee of a pug's age.
v MPR will not place a pug into home with animals that are not altered (unless due to age restrictions). You should care need to spay or neuter your animals before applying for adoption.
v MPR will not ship our pugs.
Before applying, please understand what the purpose of adoption is and is not. If you can not comprehend the purpose of adoption, it may not be for you. There are many families that want to open their homes to a pug that needs a forever home. Please respect the needs of our pugs by submitting only serious applications.
Application Process
The first step in the adoption process is filling out an application. Each application will be reviewed by our volunteers and we will then try to contact each applicant in a timely manner. Our screening process is very extensive and includes a mandatory vet reference, a phone interview, and a home visit by a rescue volunteer. Then follow-up phone interviews and home visits will be done once a pug is adopted.
Our adoption donation ranges depend on the age of the pug. Adoption fees go to support the pugs (vet bills, medicine, food, toys, and other supplies). Absolutely no money is paid to volunteers.
Each pug will be neutered or spayed, current on all vaccinations, assessed by a veterinarian and treated for any known medical problems before it is adopted out. We will send medical records and rabies tags to all new families.
